Building a Grid-Enabled Registry Resource

Goal: To establish a longstanding, multi-purpose Integrated Registry Information System (IRIS) that will support a wide variety of studies examining the impact of healthcare policies and interventions on cancer care quality, costs and survivorship.

Initial Steps:
• Link all cases of lung, colorectal and blood cancers in Metropolitan Atlanta diagnosed from 2002-2010, with clinical data from the Emory Healthcare electronic medical record and pathology images in a pilot information system.
• Configure this database using information system technologies that uses common terminologies for the data. Reuse this data to make new discoveries about cancer diagnosis patterns, prevention, treatment strategies and policies for managing cancer survivors.
